The Open Knowledge Foundation (OKF) is a global non-profit network that promotes and shares information at no charge, including both content and data. Founded in 2004 in Cambridge, England, OKF has developed influential tools and specifications for open data, including CKAN (Comprehensive Knowledge Archive Network), the Frictionless Data specifications for packaging and transporting data, and the Open Definition which sets the standard for what constitutes open data and open content. The organization campaigns for a fair, sustainable, and open future through data literacy, policy advocacy, and technical infrastructure.
