The Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) is an American professional organization for electrical engineering, electronics engineering, and related disciplines. Formed in 1963 as an amalgamation of the American Institute of Electrical Engineers and the Institute of Radio Engineers, IEEE is today a global network of more than 486,000 engineering and STEM professionals. IEEE develops widely adopted technical standards including the IEEE 802 networking standards and the IEEE Learning Object Metadata (LOM) standard.
