The European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE) is an agency of the European Union dedicated to promoting gender equality and eliminating discrimination based on gender. Founded on 20 December 2006 by EU regulation and headquartered in Vilnius, Lithuania, EIGE plays a significant role in collecting, analyzing, and disseminating data on gender equality. The institute develops tools and methodologies including the Gender Equality Index and maintains thesauri and controlled vocabularies for gender-related research and policy analysis.
