DataCite is an international not-for-profit organization that works to improve data citation and enable easier access to research data on the Internet. As a DOI Registration Agency, DataCite provides persistent identifiers for research datasets, software, and other research outputs, helping establish them as legitimate, citable contributions to the scholarly record. DataCite also maintains a metadata schema widely used by repositories to describe and discover research data, and supports data archiving to permit verification and re-purposing of research results.
